The nuns began making dolls like Beauty and the Beast, as well as other fairy tale dolls (see the other characters to the right), to support their modest lifestyle. As demand for these beautiful, handcrafted dolls grew, the nuns reached out to the surrounding village folk for help in creating these dolls.
